What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are an alternative to dentures or bridge work for replacing missing teeth. The implants are made from titanium and is surgically implanted in the jaw bone below the gum to function as the roots of missing teeth. An implant crown will then be fitted to match your existing teeth, improving your smile.

Most Dental Implants are placed in our dental surgery, using only local anesthesia, with minimal post-operative pain or discomfort

What are the Benefits associated with Tooth Implants?

Dental Implants are permanent since they fuse with bone. This advanced treatment makes it possible for your replacement teeth to both look, feel and function like natural teeth – almost as if you never lost your original teeth.

All of the discomforts liked to removable dentures are eliminated. They function just like your own teeth. This means that you can eat and drink whatever you choose, with full confidence and pain free. It will boost your confidence and self esteem if you were embarrassed by your dentures or missing teeth.

Because adjacent teeth are not altered to give support to the implant (as in the case of a fixed porcelain bridge), much more of your own teeth remain intact, improving long-term dental health. In addition, they also help maintain the health of your teeth and gums by acting in much the same way as natural teeth.
Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth for flossing, thereby improving oral hygiene. Implants are extremely strong and, if properly taken care of, may last for the rest of your life.

Are Teeth Implants suitable to everyone?

Almost anybody who is missing one or more teeth due to extractions, accidents, disease or tooth decay may be a candidate for dental implants. The most determining factor is the amount of available bone and good healthy gums.

Medical health is a far more important factor than age. However, if you are healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, you probably are a very good candidate to receive dental implants.

When you’ve got a present medical or dental condition that will prevent you from getting dental implants, we’ll work together with you to identify a cure and treatment that will achieve your dental goals.

It is very important that the patient should be committed to good dental hygiene. Brush and floss as recommended by your dentist or dental hygienist. Your new teeth must be cared for and checked regularly, just like your natural teeth. See your dentist in six months, or more frequently if so advised.

How successful are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants are stable and comfortable with no loose parts to worry about and no adjustment required after fitting. Normally, it will serve its owner for life.

However, success can be affected by where in the jaw the tooth implants are placed but generally, dental implants have a very good success rate of up to 98%. Remember regular dental visits combined with good eating habits and oral hygiene help lengthen the life of your dental implant.
